Roughly fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Officers state they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.
Police then located numerous other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police state preliminary tests suggest the liquid was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; investigators are not yet aware of any injuries in association with the event," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the public for tips.
An important representative stated the vandalism made him speechless and had to be solved rapidly.
"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on social media, recalling the murder of nine people by a shooter aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
